Cruising for a Big Bang

Dr. Hawking, Dr. Hawking,
Your remarks are truly shocking!
A creator wasn’t needed
For the universe, you say.
Those entities you’re knocking
Don’t take kindly to your mocking.
There’ll be coal inside your stocking
On this coming Christmas Day!

Dr. Hawking, Dr. Hawking,
Hear those theologians squawking!
They’re exclaiming, “Gosh!” and “Darn it!”
(Which is how those fellows swear.)
Just be careful, for you’re liable
To be belted with a Bible,
And without the Lord’s protection, well,
You haven’t got a prayer!

You knew I was gonna love this one, right? Well, I do. Heard the story on the radio last night and hoped I would read your take on it. You didn’t disappoint!

  2. I echo Sergio.
    Tomorrow I will show
    a print-out of your words
to all my friends. We nerds
    who try to follow Hawking
and do not find him shocking
    must admit he’s spun away
from quotes of his before today.

    Those out to reconcile
    new physics with religion
might have to wait a while
to see them move a smidgen.
    Huge forces long arrayed
    upon the world’s lit stage
are sure their views are right
and say so. On they fight.
