Friend of Art

On Roe, a nearby avenue,
I’ve made a friend.  I call him Stu.
His somber face and bulging eye
Unnerve the average passerby.
But Stu and I just seem to mesh,
Although he’s stone and I am flesh.
Observe the many traits we share:
Our pensive air; our piercing stare;
A lack of flair in what we wear;
Our oh-so-slightly thinning hair.
While others get their R&R
At movies or the corner bar,
There’s little that I’d rather do
Than share a brew with good old Stu.

This is absolutely fantastic! I love the art up and down Roe, but now my favorite piece has a name and an immortalizing poem. Nice work, Scott!

If I see you and Stu hanging out,
I hope I can stop by for a stout.

You share a brew, with good ol’ Stu?
Oh heavens me, what shall I do?

    I must denounce this travesty,
    as Stu imbibes too frequently.

    It’s rumor, hearsay, I admit,
but I suspect poor Stu can’t quit.

    His passive posture a facade
that most will say strikes them as odd.

    He drinks to quell anxiety.
Stressed to the max! No remedy!

Not peaceful, docile, lost in thought
    but seething, angered, much distraught.

    With elevated diastolic
    his temper tends toward vitriolic.

    Restricted by his median home-
nowhere to hide, nowhere to roam.

He both becomes pent up and sad
So on display, this sculpted lad

    With northbound, southbound passersby
all shirking from his bulging eye.

See Stu’s not human, flesh or bone,
And yet exists as more than stone.

A friendly gesture might do some good
to calm him, soothe him, help his mood.

So next time you’re found driving Roe don’t be afraid to say hello

to Stu, or Scott, if he’s nearby.
A friendly wave – neighborly “hi”.

Just hold the lager, a general rule
and if you shan’t, give Stu O’Douls….

I love how Stu is so current. He now needs some political accessories. How ’bout some red, white and blue, Stu?

Thanks for all the great comments, everybody! Kudos to Phil for his clever take on Stu’s tippling habits. Stu might just have to respond soon.
